Rannerdale Knotts. The Perfect Place
Rannerdale Knotts is located to the north of the village of Buttermere. At
only 355m (1164ft) it is an easy and pleasant walk with excellent views of
Crummock Water and the surrounding fells, including Grasmoor and Whiteless
Pike. Rannerdale also comes into its own and is renowned for its carpet of
bluebells in spring time.
A circuit of Rannerdale is easy from Buttermere but it may be prefered to walk
it in an anti-clockwise direction to avoid the relatively steep ascent of the
summit from the west.
How to get there
Rannerdale Knotts is accessible by road from Cockermouth via Lorton Vale, from
Keswick via Borrowdale and from Braithwaite via the Keskadale valley &
Newlands Hause. A car park is available in the village of Buttermere just
to the right of the Fish Hotel as you approach and also one on the road leaving
Buttermere for Cockermouth.
