Crummock Water. The Perfect Place
Crummock Water is situated to the north west of Buttermere occupying the valley
formed by Mellbreak to the west and Grasmoor to the east. Crummock Water's
primary inflow is Buttermere Dubs from Buttermere and its outflow is the River
Cocker which heads north to Cockermouth where it joins up with the Derwent in
the town.
Crummock Water is a quiet and secluded lake, overshadowed by its more popular
twin Buttermere. Being the quieter of the two makes it the perfect place to
watch the geese and ducks go about their lives whilst relaxing next to the
tranquil water's edge - the
Perfect Place
on a warm summer's evening.
How to get there
Crummock Water is accessible by road from Cockermouth via Lorton Vale, from
Keswick via Borrowdale and from Braithwaite via the Keskadale valley and
Newlands Hause. A car park is available in the village of Buttermere just
to the right of the Fish Hotel as you approach and also one on the road leaving
Buttermere for Cockermouth.
Crummock Water lies to the north west of Buttemere and is accessible along the
path which leaves the car parks along the edge of Mill Beck.
