Catbells. The Perfect Place
For those who have looked across Derwentwater from Crow Park, Friar's Crag or
more spectacularily from the viewing point on Castlehead, you will have seen
the distinctive rounded summit of Catbells on the fells opposite. Catbells is
on a ridge of fells, which includes Maiden Moor and High Spy and separates
Derwentwater from the Newlands Valley.
Catbells offers excellent views across Derwentwater and of Skiddaw &
Blencathra to the north. Its modest height of 451m (1481ft) allows a relatively
quick climb which means it's the
Perfect Place
to watch the sun setting from its summit and still allow time to get back down
in sufficient light.
How to get there
Leaving Keswick via Portinscale and driving through Fawe Park, a car park is
available on the Skelgill road. A number of other parking places are available
on the road side to Grange.
