Castlehead.   The Perfect Place

Castlehead Wood is situated just to the south of Keswick on the eastern side of the B5289 Borrowdale Road. It is an isolated wooded fell with a height of 162m (531ft) and is a short climb through the trees to the summit. Castlehead offers superb aerial views of Derwentwater and the ridge along its western shore at any time of the day, but is the Perfect Place to sit and watch the sun sink beyond the western fells.

How to get there

Parking in Keswick, several paths lead into Castlehead Wood. From the south eastern corner of Keswick, a path from Springs Road leads into the wood from the east. Two paths are available from the shores of Derwentwater via Cockshot Wood and also from The Ings having first taken in the sites at Friar's Crag and Strandshag Bay.
