17 September 2009 - Thirlmere & Derwentwater
We seem to have had an east / west split in the weather lately which has made
it difficult for an East Yorkshire based photographer to know what things are
really
like in Cumbria. Having no choice but to put my trust in the Met Office, I
packed the car and set out for a few days camping at Castlerigg Farm near
Keswick.
My first aim was to check out Steel Fell at the southern end of Thirlmere, as I
believed it offered some great views of the valley. I was not wrong, but
achieving some of the vantage points was less than easy and my tripod was
having to support the camera on some worryingly steep inclines at times.
Climbing to them with a 25lb on my back was not without its difficulties either!
I spent the rest of my time around Derwentwater, mainly on the eastern shore at
Friar's Crag and Ashness Gate, taking in some early morning shots as well as
some from the last light of the day.
Photographs from both locations can be seen in the panel on the right. These
and others can be viewed with more information about the photograph, and the
ability to purchase, by following the links below:-
