Autumnal Derwentwater (SS-03432)

Autumnal Derwentwater. Ref. SS-03432

The western shore of Derwentwater is fast becoming one of my favourite photographic locations.
On this occasion parking up on the roadside at the foot of Skelgill Bank and walking the tree covered footpaths to Hawse End in total darkness at 6am. The silence and tranquility is something that only that unearthly pre-dawn time can offer, but despite the time, it is a pleasure to be there.

This photograph was taken close to the Brandelhow landing stage and was a must because of the stunning colours of the foliage on the trees. Latrigg is clearly visible in the centre with the eastern Skiddaw fells and Blencathra overshadowing it from behind.

Date taken 16 October 2009.
Settings: Pentax K10D with 18-55mm lens @ 21mm. Exposure 1/8 sec @ f/11.
